Why do 4-H Record Books?
Record books help members build valuable skills such as planning, communication strategies, record keeping, and self reflection.
Record Books serve as documentation of the 4-H experience which can be used for scholarship purposes.
Record books are how we show our funders you have participated in and learned from 4-H.
When is the Record Book due to be handed in?
September 30th of the current 4-H Year which the last day of the 'old' 4-H year
Discuss with your Leader if they want to see your Record Book before you submit it
What happens if I do not complete and hand in my Record Book?
Kids not submitting Record books may not be eligible to continue in the program.
What goes into the 4-H Record Book?
All 4-H Record Books must have these 2 sections to be complete (see more details below):
SECTION 1 - 4-H or Cloverbud Personal Development Record
SECTION 2 - Project Record(s) for each project you participate in during this 4-H year
How do I hand in my 4-H Record Book?
Once complete, it should be presented to your Club and/or Independent Project Leader(s) who will review and sign it. Ensure the office receives a hard copy of the completed 4-H Record Book by 09/30 of the current year

This section is about you and your experiences in 4-H other than your project work
In Section 1, you tell us about yourself, your goals, the activities such as Public Presentations and Community Service you have participated in, and other responsibilities, activities and events you have been involved in.
At the end of the year (late August/early September) complete it by writing your '4-H Story' to sum up your accomplishments and how your year went.
SECTION 2 - PROJECT RECORD
Each species or project area designs their own Project Record Section.
For each project you do, you must add that Project Record Section to your 4-H Record Book but you only have to do Section 1 once, combining your experiences into your 4-H Story.
For each separate project you do, that Leader must review and sign that section.

PRESENTING and ENHANCING YOUR 4-H RECORD BOOK
Once 4-H record books are received by the 4-H office at the end of that 4-H Year, a tam of volunteer evaluators gather to review them as follows:
- The 4-H Record Book contains Section 1, and Section 2 for every project you participated in.
- All pages are complete relevant to your age and abilities (see the 4-H office if you need accommodations to be made).
- The prestation is neat and tidy with acceptable spelling, and grammar.
- The Record Book is in a Binder with a cover page and table of contents.
- It has certificates, rubrics, and other supplementary materials in plastic pockets or securely attached to pages.
- It is enhanced with drawings, photographs with captions and dates, artwork and other relevant information beyond the minimum requirements.
